OMG! I admit it. I am busted. I purchased and read the book “The Overton Window” by Glenn Beck.  I read many books. I love science fiction and “military” type books.

The Overton Window by Glenn Beck

The Overton Window

This is scary stuff because it is written in the “present” and based on hundreds of actual references of true events.

In a nutshell the story is about a plan to change America by manipulating the public perception gradually, so outrageous ideas or laws become acceptable. That means in simple terms for example: Trading your liberties for security. But done in a systematic way. Purposely creating events that make the public accept changes in society to accept the changes willingly.

As a fictional work. Its a good read. A great thriller. If you read it with a critical eye simply recalling the author it may seem somewhat unlikely.. However you might just get a “aha” moment. Then it becomes frankly horrifying.

The writing style is good. The characters have depth. But thats not what makes it GOOD.

The relationship to actual real world events wrapped in a possible scenario described in the book is what is well….terrifying.  Because I know that some bits are true.  Beck cites numerous real world actions, and provides the sources so a curious reader can go check the facts.

Its appalling that we have become so malleable, public opinion so easy to direct toward a goal. Of course its always been that way. But sadly, once we allow certain liberties to be eroded…its difficult to get them back. Hopefully anyone who reads this book WILL take the time to skim the references and the real world contexts. And realize whats already been lost…before its too late.

This is a work of fiction, at no time does Beck claim the scenario is based on any truths…He makes that very clear in the introduction.  I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys realistic thrillers. I would not recommend it to anyone who simply hates Glenn Beck. They wont be able to seperate the stories goal from the author.
